This intensive DSLR workshop is designed to give students a quick start into learning the ins and outs of fundamental DSLR image-making and mastering techniques of digital photography and its aesthetics. This workshop will review camera basics, practice using camera settings, controls and lenses; explore composition, form, and color theory; and incorporate theories of still photography and their relation to cinema in a hands-on, practical experience that will strengthen photography, cinematography and storytelling skills. This 1-credit Tech Workshop takes place over three consecutive Saturdays, with hands-on homework assignments during the intervening weeks. NOTE: For ONLINE section only: Students taking this course on-line are expected to own or acquire a Sony Mirrorless Digital Camera and Adobe Cloud-compatible computer, or comparable equipment. These are available for free check-out on campus, or for purchase from www.bhphotovideo.com (Sony A6500 DSLM) with a16 to 50 mm lens kit. Please contact Instructor for equipment details and acceptable substitutions prior to registration.

This course is open to MA in Media Studies, MS and graduate certificate in Media Management, and Documentary Studies Certificate students only. All other graduate students may request permission three (3) weeks before the start of the semester by emailing mediastudiesadvising@newschool.edu.
