In this course, students will create radio-play content developed from of Eugene Ionesco's 1959 masterpiece, RHINOCEROS, which was written in response to the rise of European fascism. The play explores themes of conformity, social responsibility, mass movements, mob mentality, philosophy and morality. Mannes and Jazz composers may participate and contribute musical or sound content. Before embarking on the creation of this radio play, students will study the play in the context of 20th Century political theatre. An additional 6 hours of rehearsal time per week will be required of each participant.
