This course is intended to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge to produce a photo documentary account of issues in urban education. Students work alongside a documentary photographer to construct visual narratives about urban education that trace the complexity of educational experiences across a range of communities and sites in New York City. The course serves as a platform to raise compelling questions about the role of documentary photography in the production of knowledge about issues in urban education and explores possibilities for engaging visual story-telling as a mechanism for creating change in public schools.
