International migration in Latin America and the Caribbean has contributed to highlighting a salient feature of current migration processes: its feminization. This is commonplace in public opinion, but the specificity of migration and its consequences for women remains largely ignored and thus unknown. This course addresses and deepens this issue in the context of the United States. This course will explore, through migration literature, case studies, guest lectures and site visits, the multiple intersections between gender and migration, and how women have captured, communicated and resisted through different artistic expressions- from poems, stories, to theatre, and visual arts. In recent years, a growing level of attention, body of arts, literature and political activism has appeared, showing how patterns, systems and structures are fundamentally gendered; how migration policies affect men and women differently both in the process of emigration and immigration.
