Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: Natural Sciences & Mathematics

Calculus I: Multidisciplinary
Spring 2019
Taught By: Jacob Koehler
Section: A

Course Reference Number: 1780

Credits: 3

This course covers the content of a traditional first semester in calculus through a multidisciplinary lense. Intended for students who are new to calculus or need a refresher, topics may include summations and quadrature, integration and differentiation related through the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, tangent lines and optimization, and basic differential equations that model natural phenomena. Students will gain skills in communicating technical and scientific information, individually and in groups, by explaining mathematical ideas in oral, written, and visual form and by critiquing the reasoning of others. The course will utilize technology and mathematical software to compute, communicate, and visualize mathematics. This course is offered every semester and fulfills the second mathematics requirement for the Interdisciplinary Science major.
