This course introduces the framework of urban policy and development in the United States. The focus is on conveying a broad understanding of the structure and context in which local governments, local communities, and the private sector interact to formulate urban policy. The investigation of this dynamic leads to discussions of recent major development projects in New York City. In the end, students learn new ways of analyzing how urban policy is formulated and implemented in modern cities. (Offered Fall, Spring, and sometimes Summer Term.)
