This course critically explores urban development patterns alongside the evolution of industrial production and environmental protection practices that have lead to environmental injustices. Particularly, we examine the social relations of production and power that contribute to the manifestation of unjust conditions in the urban environment. Finally we consider the most critical question: What can be done to correct these inequalities? Emphasis is placed on the public policy, planning, and community based solutions to the problems of environmental injustice. We use local cases and guest lectures to enrich class readings and discussions. Elective in the Sustainability Management area of specialization.
