This course primarily serves primarily to prepare students for the summer International Field Program in South Africa. It comprises of a survey of political, economic and social life in South Africa. Some of the topics covered include colonialism, nationalism, the state, the political legacy of liberation, civil society, the impact of globalization, social movements, youth, cultural politics and the role of mass media.
