Through a data-driven model for normal development, students explore basic concepts of psychopathology and contemporary approaches to diagnosis and clinical interventions. We study the works of seminal theorists, including Sigmund Freud, as well as more recent approaches emphasized in The Harvard Guide to Psychiatry. Students are introduced to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual and consider its uses and problems in an increasingly complex field.
