Developmental Transformations (DvT) is a unique form of drama therapy (*) that uses spontaneous improvisation as the basis for therapeutic exploration. In DvT, the images and inner landscapes of a client or clients are evoked through movement, sound, gesture and role. These images and areas of meaning are enacted in continuous transformations of embodied encounters in a playspace with the therapist, who serves as a facilitator, guide and live-action projective object for the client(s). The therapeutic process has been described as "free association in action” and is geared to address problems related to encounter/intimacy, play, change and embodiment. (*Drama Therapy is an eclectic form of creative arts therapy using role playing, improvisation, psychodrama, storytelling, masks, puppets and performance to effect growth, transformation and healing of the mind, body and spirit.) This course will cover a didactic overview of the major key concepts in DvT: encounter, embodiment, transformation and playspace. We will also practice the group and individual forms of DvT experientially.
