Sound and Space
Spring 2023 - Paris
Taught By: Anabelle Lacroix and Nadine Schütz
Section: PC1

CRN: 9368

Credits: 3

This course provides an investigation into sound art and listening, with a focus on site-specific approaches which consider sound in relation to social, political and environmental contexts. We will be exploring a rich critical environment in which to rethink the performative and narrative potentials of sound through its dynamic interaction with the bodies and spaces it activates. The course format combines theoretical, artistic and technological inputs and exercises, thus providing a holistic approach to sound as a medium of artistic expression. Pre-requisites: students are expected to be ready to engage with sound, listen carefully and explore new artistic approaches. Students will primarily be using Reaper software (open source). This course includes an additional 10-hours of technical workshops during the spring semester.
