Spring 2020

Taught By: Stephanie Nadalo Marcarini

Section: PC1

CRN: 6177

Credits: 3

This class examines global perspectives on design history from the 15th century to the present. The goal of this class is to challenge traditional Western-centric and national narratives and incorporate decoloniality and transnationality within the design history discourse. Weekly sessions led by different specialists examine multicultural and transnational currents within European and Northern American design history while also probing the effect that colonialism and post-colonialism has had on design within non-Western and Diaspora cultures. The class will particularly focus on the curatorial challenges of exhibiting and mediating a globalised culture of design. Open to: ALL GR Students
