Images pervade our everyday experiences in an increasingly technological and communication based culture. From newspapers to the Web, from the sciences to the humanities, to advertisements and movies, we encounter visual culture in every area of our lives. In this seminar, students will reflect critically on what a representation is, within the specific context of design and design history. Students will be introduced to key terms and concepts of Visual Studies, exploring its main theories and methodologies. They will then develop their own argumentation about what it means to discover/know design through its visual representations. The course will eventually culminate in a curatorial project.
