This course provides an introduction to learning operatic arias and ensembles from a wide variety of repertoire including opera, operetta, musical theater and Gilbert and Sullivan. Students will be given the techniques to understand the composer’s musical intentions and will begin basic preparatory study of singing and acting in various styles and languages, stagecraft and acting techniques. The course will culminate with a public performance of opera scenes studied in class.
