A one-semester course for graduate students majoring in orchestral instruments. The primary focus of the class is development of necessary skills including business and personal, as well as musical skills to more successfully participate in the competitive world of professional music. The primary vehicle of the course is study and performance of standard orchestral excerpts, although attention to major solo repertoire will be addressed as appropriate. Topics to be considered during the semester include: résumé preparation, practical aspects of taking auditions, demo recording skills, thorough musical preparation, and travel and psychological factors.
