"Contemporary Classical Repertoire" will introduce students to the works of Morton Feldman, John Cage, Earle Brown, Robert Ashley, David Behrman, Morton Subotnick, and Alvin Lucier among others. Students will learn learn strategies for approaching text-based and graphic scores and conceptual instructions, as well as how to structure varied, multi-layered performances. Also included will be ensemble pieces in which the voice is used as an instrument within the overall texture. La Barbara will offer historical perspective and context for works by these composers within the realm of contemporary music and theater pieces. Open to singers, actors, composers, musicians and dancers from across The New School.
