The Art of Change Opera is an experimental project created by composer and artist Jean-Baptiste Barrière which develops a radically new artistic form, - open, participative, generative and interactive -, build around various ways of thinking, from the very pragmatic to the most speculative, about « what needs to be changed » in the world today. It involves previously recorded interviews and statements delivered live, of a blend of professors and students from different departments. It also includes video materials, mostly found on the Internet, from intellectuals, thinkers and activists from all around the world, mixed with actors interpreting fragments of important historical texts about change. Speech materials proliferate in music, ‘orchestrated' (some pre-recorded in advance, some live in real-time) and performed, partly by instrumentalists and partly with the help of computer generative compositional processes. Professors and students from every part of The New School, CoPA, as well as Parsons, Lang, NSSR, and other departments are invited to participate to the development process of The Art of Change Opera.
