Make Music New York

Spring 2021

Taught By: Aaron Friedman

Section: A

CRN: 6183

Credits: 2

This course is suitable for musicians, or any CoPA graduate student passionate and knowledgeable about music. In this course, students will take an active role in running Make Music New York, a free citywide outdoor musical celebration that has become the largest music event in the city’s history. Each student will adopt one neighborhood to coordinate, and one participatory special project to spearhead. By the end of the semester, students will have developed key skills in community organizing, project management, music marketing and PR, festival production, and getting things done in NYC. Students should expect to spend time each week working on projects in the community. This course fulfills the internship requirement for students in the MA Arts Management and Entrepreneurship program. While the semester ends before the Make Music New York event (which happens on Sunday, June 21), students may elect to see their projects through to completion if they have time and interest to do so.
