The Power Of Artists In CRP GR

Spring 2022

Taught By: Wema Ragophala

Section: A

CRN: 11808

Credits: 3

Artists have a powerful role when engaging in community. This course examines teaching methods, strategies, and expands techniques in Culturally Responsive Pedagogy through Emancipatory Arts Education. Students will engage in discussions about implicit biases, analyze works from leading scholars, educators, and artists like: Zaretta Hammond, Audre Lorde, and Bell Hooks. Students will also develop an arts-based culturally responsive curriculum. “The true power of culturally responsive teaching comes from being comfortable in your own skin because you are not a neutral party in the process. You can never take yourself out of the equation instead you must commit to the journey”. (Zaretta Hammond)
