The Lortel Theatre Music Theatre Lab: Immigrant Experiences
CoPA Cross-Disciplinary: Coll of Performing Arts
CRN: 13821
Credits: 2
The Lortel Theatre Music Theatre Lab: Immigrant Experiences is a partnership between the Lucille Lortel Theatre and the College of Performing Arts. Led by composer and director Jaime Lozano, this composer/lyricist lab will examine the diverse ways in which music theatre has and can be used to depict experiences of immigration as students develop original music theatre scenes and songs focused on these themes. This lab will culminate in a presentation at the Lucile Lortel Theatre in which the works created in the lab will be professionally directed and performed. Students must apply to participate in this course by completing the application form available below. All students who identify as composers, lyricists, and playwrights may apply to participate, regardless of whether or not the student identifies as an immigrant. Students may apply in writer/composer teams, or as individuals who will participate either as solo writer/composers, or be paired with collaborators within the lab. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. This course is by permission only. Interested students should email copaacademics@newschool.edu for guidance on how to apply.
