In this class we will draw a long line from Jürgen Habermas’ Theory of Communicative Action to the current work of Critical Theorists in Germany. In our discussions in class we will put special emphasis on the potential contributions of the different approaches to recent political science, focussed on the relation between capitalism and democracy. We will read and debate texts from Jürgen Habermas, Claus Offe, Axel Honneth, Rahel Jaeggi, Hubertus Buchstein, Robin Celikates, and Hartmut Rosa.
