The third and fourth semesters of the Guitar Sightreading program are conducted at a professional rehearsal level. Topics and skills include: reading 8va (octave higher than written), linear materials, written-out voicings and deciphering chord symbols, alternate clefs (bass, alto, tenor), transposing Bb and Eb parts at sight, advanced repertoire in contemporary jazz, classical (from Renaissance to contemporary, including choral and chamber ensemble reading from parts), Brazilian, Afro-Cuban and other world music traditions; odd meters, crossrhythms and polyrhythms; improvised solo transcriptions, actual charts from Broadway pits and studio sessions, instructor original compositions, folliowing a conductor and strategies for preparing larger pieces for performance and recording. Prerequisite: passing through Level 1B or advanced placement through initial screening.
