Within the current, swiftly evolving terrain of independent music, artists are taking their music careers into their own hands and finding success by learning skills of music business professionals in every facet of the industry. This course will offer invaluable knowledge and practices for aspiring independent musicians who plan to attain lifelong careers in music performance, composition and songwriting. Through engaging lectures and real time example-based lessons you will learn realistic and easy ways to incorporate skills like creating press releases to obtain exposure in magazine and digital outlets, writing grants and receiving paid commissions to gain financial freedom and flexibility, how to build a contact list for long lasting career support, constructing music bios that catch the eye and navigating online and in-person networking and promotion. You will also learn time management skills and self-care regimens to avoid over-working and burnout. Through this course, you will be able to define your personal approach in managing and growing your music career while taking your health and wellbeing into account. This course fulfills the Music Business requirement for students majoring in Jazz and Contemporary Music.
