Oceanic Imaginaries

Spring 2019

Taught By: Heather Davis

Section: A

CRN: 7467

Credits: 4

We live on an island next to the ocean, but what is this ocean? How do we think through the creatures, stories, and lives that are dependent upon have been transformed by the ocean? This course will inquire into all things oceanic from microorganisms to whales to shipping routes to migration, with particular attention to the ways in which global warming is rapidly changing ocean ecosystems. We will investigate what it means to live in a world that is so composed of water, but where those salty depths are often overlooked and in many ways remain mysterious. [Track C]
