This seminar will focus on relationships between language and image in film and video art. This is a seminar + course that incorporates readings, viewings and discussions into a wider practice of independent, interdisciplinary creative production. Text on screen, the voice’s resonance, experimental screenplays, online projects and video installation will inspire our work together. Students will be required to read, discuss, watch, create, write and conduct research for in-class presentations. The course is divided into thematic blocks, each of which requires a separate creative assignment. The assignments can be treated individually or as building blocks towards a larger work. In addition to class projects, students will be required to do substantial work outside class. Students are required to have some facility with shooting and editing video.
