[Track S] This class involves a rigorous shot-by-shot analysis of Synecdoche, New York, Charlie Kaufman’s mind-bending postmodern masterpiece. It will also involve a line-by-line reading of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, the play within the film that the director in the film stages. The goal of the class is to practice the kind of radical engagement with a text (whether literary or cinematic) that is only possible in a community of learners committed to deepening their appreciation and understanding of both cinema and literature.
