In-depth analysis, from a production vantage point, of the cinematic techniques of Stanley Kubrick and Robert Altman. Our focus will be on directorial tools and techniques, both creatively and logistically. We will examine their contrasting approaches to storytelling, sound design, editing, production design, and the camera’s relationship to the actor - as well as explore thematic overlaps throughout their work. There will be virtual screenings, seminar-style group discussions, readings, and presentational projects. [Track S]
