This in-person hybrid studio-seminar dance practice course offers students an opportunity to study a duet of contemporary movement practices with two extraordinary dance artists: Ana "Rokafella" Garcia, and Darian Parker, teaching Hip Hop dance practices and West African dance practices, respectively. The course explores the term "contemporary" within these dance contexts, and considers various understandings of the body, virtuosity, and reasons for dancing. Movement practice in the studio will be complemented with reading, viewing, and writing assignments. Space is limited and priority is given to dance majors and minors. This course meets in Tishman Auditorium with appropriate safety protocols in effect, including mandatory social distancing and mask-wearing at all times. *This course can satisfy the required “Trio of Contemporary Dance Practices” requirement of the dance major.
