Ballet Practices

Spring 2021

Taught By: Katy Pyle

Section: A

CRN: 3485

Credits: 1

This all-level online practices course builds on principles of functional movement, shape and alignment as grounded in the perspectives of classical ballet practices. It will start with foundation and alignment but it will grow into combinations across the floor. Students work at the ballet barre, as well as explore center work that includes adagio, pirouettes, petite allegro and grand allegro. We will work on inside and outside turns, the eight body positions, port des bras, waltz, assemble, glissade and grande jete. We will meet synchronously Tuesdays and Thursdays via Zoom or asynchronously via Canvas if needed. Priority is given to dance majors and minors. Interested students outside of the Dance Program must contact the instructor for permission to enroll in the course.
