This summer intensive course will meet from June 7 to July 1. This intensive class will equip students with the design skills to generate innovative news products (apps, websites and social media interventions), with the goal that students would finish the intensive with a project suitable for their journalism portfolio and prepare them to pursue an intensive reporting project for publication. In addition to applied design skills, students will consider the ethics of design as it relates to news, media and the information ecosystem, asking such questions as: How can news products serve the values of democracy and equity?
