Black lives matter. This course is about Lorraine Hansberry’s exploration of the socio-economic conditions black Americans face in their everyday lives. It’s an exploration of the myth of the American dream and the paradoxical fact of a black caste. We will, of course, read Hansberry’s iconic work, Raisin in the Sun, and study her artistic collaborations. At the center of the course will be the author's philosophical meditation on identity and assimilation. This course fulfills the Single-Author requirement in Literary Studies.
