Poetry and Rhythmic Traditions
Spring 2023
Taught By: Kristin Prevallet
Section: A

CRN: 13933

Credits: 4

The rhythmic patterns of poems that tell stories and reveal myths have been passed down from many oral and performative traditions. The course will be an homage to deep traditions that continue to inspire both poets and songwriters. There are many contemporary poets for whom music is at the center of their practice. In this elective we will study Tyehimba Jess, Lee Ann Brown, Alice Notley, Helen Adam, Nathaniel Mackey, and Bob Kaufman. Open to all students.

After the first week of the semester, permission of the instructor will be required in order to register for this course.
