Intermediate Multigenre
Spring 2022
Taught By: Wendy Xu
Section: A
CRN: 5458
Credits: 4
All genres are welcome in this intermediate-level course, as is writing that confounds genre. Through bold experimentation, genre-less writing activities, workshop, and discussion, we will explore themes of absence and presence this semester, reading work that is both haunted, fragmented, redacted, full of cracks and voids. What does loss look and sound like on the page, as either subject or technique? What tools do we have at our disposal to write about the void, the unknown, the missing, the lost? And how does writing recover what’s gone? Students will be asked to write both inside and out of their “home genres,” to read and respond to a wide range of authors, and to contribute regularly to the online classroom environment.
