Eugene Lang College Lib Arts: Philosophy
CRN: 13905
Credits: 2
Hannah Arendt's The Human Condition is a seminal text in political philosophy. This course will involve a close reading of this text. We will explore Arendt's inquiry into the vita activa (the active life) and how it has changed historically. In doing so we will pursue a number of themes central to Arendt's thinking including the human condition, labor, work, action, natality, politics, power, violence, thinking, and judging. Crucially, the course will ask how Arendt's text is relevant to political thinking today.
