Scientists and journalists have a powerful part to play in shaping action to address the climate emergency. This interdisciplinary class is open to students interested in developing their understanding of the science of climate change, potential solutions to address its impacts, and how journalism and science communication can help shift action around the climate crisis. The goals of the course include: 1) Understanding the science of climate change 2) Researching impacts of climate change 3) Using a climate justice framework to identify climate solutions (4) Assessing effective science communication strategies 5) Creating solutions journalism—through writing, audio, visual media, and live events—that brings those insights to a broader public.
