Spring 2020

Taught By: Bhawani Venkataraman

Section: A

CRN: 5564

Credits: 4

Through experiments and activities, this laboratory course explores the chemistry of water. Lab experiments will investigate techniques for measuring levels of contaminants to assess drinking water quality and the importance of experimental design and data quality in making decisions on drinking water quality. Experiments will also investigate the chemistry of water purification systems. The class will end in a project that includes collecting water samples from a local body of water and assessing its water quality. This class meets outside of the regular bell schedule. Pre-requisite: Chemistry of the Environment. This course satisfies the laboratory requirement for the Interdisciplinary Science major or minor or the intermediate level requirement for the IS major. This course also satisfies the lab requirement for the Environmental Studies major.
