This course serves as the capstone experience for Interdisciplinary Science majors. The course integrates learning across the natural sciences and math through a planetary health framework. Planetary health intentionally connects human health and environmental change by emphasizing the need to understand “how humanity manages Earth’s natural systems will be a primary determinant of future global health”. The course readings include primary literature that introduce the concept and significance of a planetary health approach to addressing many of the issues facing society today. Students will apply a planetary health framework in a role-playing dialog on the role of nuclear energy in New York State’s energy portfolio and the ability of NYS meeting targets set in the NYS 2015 Energy Plan for renewable energy and emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants.

This is a required course for the Interdisciplinary Science major. Prerequisites: Completion of two 3000 level LSCI courses.
