In this scene study course, students will be introduced to the primary elements of acting while exploring the process of creating characters through observation, improvisation, and research. Students will focus on plays featuring magicians, magical creatures and magical worlds. Students will test the limits of their imagination by playing characters with extraordinary abilities and deepen their understanding of worlds where the impossible happens. Students will learn simple tricks, special skills required for performing magic and how to apply them to the actor’s craft. Course material will include plays by Shakespeare, Marlowe, Tony Kushner, Arthur Miller, Roberto Aguirre Sacassa and others. This course fulfills an elective requirement for Theater majors and minors.
