This introductory course offers hands-on experience teaching languages (other than English) Online, approaching two key Online course platforms: asynchronous (self-paced) and synchronous (real-time). The course integrates a review of foundational language instruction methods as applicable to online teaching, including: how to organize and structure an online language course; how to create user-friendly content; how to develop lesson plans for optimal online instruction; how to engineer online listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities that maximize student engagement; and how to manage assessments in virtual spaces. Emphasis will be placed on how to successfully navigate the unique challenges posed by the online teaching environment. This course accepts students at all levels of computer literacy, however enrolled students must have regular access to a working laptop or computer equipped with a working camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Although prior knowledge of language-teaching methodology is not required, the course is ideal for seasoned practitioners and students who hope to teach languages (other than English) online in the future.
