Fall 2022

Section: A
CRN: 14282
Credits: 3
The idea that film provides a novel lens through which to view international affairs, IR, and global studies are becoming commonplace. Focusing equally on form, content, and narrative, this seminar will explore films that challenge mainstream accounts of geopolitical history, focusing on cinematic production from outside the global north and the Hollywood system. Occasional guests, among these some filmmakers, will join the class. The assignments are (1) individual film reviews; (2) participation in curating a mini-film festival at the end of the semester; and (3) an individual research project.
