Section: A

CRN: 1265

Credits: 3

In the Virtual Learning Environments course, we will explore how current trends in technology, such as social media, MOOCs, games and mixed reality, are affecting the processes and objectives of education. We will focus on information and social spaces across multiple technologies and pedagogical approaches, as well as how to optimize digital platforms for learning experiences. The methods of instructing and learning have evolved to include a more dynamic role for the student, from passive to active authors of the space, and in general, educational trends have emphasized blended forms of learning, consisting of both theory and praxis in online and offline spaces. We will integrate these aspects, learning about VLEs while being inside them, culminating in the development of an educational project for real-world implementation.

This is a hybrid seminar/production course as may be counted as either designation toward a student’s degree. Media Studies courses are open to all graduate students. Undergraduate Juniors and Seniors with permission from the instructor and BA/MA Media studies students should email mediastudiesadvising@newschool.edu for access.
