Schools of Public Engagement: Media
CRN: 11132
Credits: 3
In response to the growing number of digital dialogue projects that are designed to facilitate conversation between people who would disagree with each other, such as in post-conflict situations, this course will look to various fields including memory work, trauma studies, psychology, political theory, human rights studies and peace studies, to assess the kinds of conversations facilitated in a digitally mediated environment. Can a digital environment facilitate dialogue between people who disagree with each other? Students will explore the aesthetics, ethics, and politics of these kinds of projects, including YouTube Series, art installations, interactive documentaries, oral history projects, etc. Adopting a critical technical practice, students will have the option to either produce a written research project or a creative multimedia piece.
