This course introduces students to the fundamentals of accounting, finance principles and basics of fundraising. It treats all financial resources acquired and leveraged by organizations similarly and builds on transferable skills for students in an industry agnostic manner. By the successful completion of this course, students will: 1. Have the knowledge of how to set up a budget/income statement, how to do advanced budgeting and modeling, using the concept of drivers and scenarios, fixed and variable costs, how to do budget allocations, understanding income statements and comparing actual to budget and perform variance analysis. 2. Understand basic finance principles such as costs, financial flows, balance sheets, and income statements, working capital, capitalization, depreciation, and time value of money. 3. Have the knowledge of basics of fundraising for nonprofits, startups and social ventures to consider a variety of sources such as grants, fellowships, seed and angel funds, and impact investment.
