Psychology of Creativity

Spring 2021

Taught By: Patricia Simko

Section: A

CRN: 8361

Credits: 3

Creativity is both a central goal and a vexing challenge for most of us. We struggle with our inner thoughts as we strive to put forward the best possible image of ourselves. Our most challenging creation is our own self, a work-in-progress that is never completed. In this course, we examine the psychological literature on creativity, including classic and psychoanalytic theories of creativity, and engage in exercises that help us move beyond our own limitations to become our best selves. The course involves reading, exercises, and life experiments that lead to both a cognitive and an experiential understanding of the creative nature of the self.
