Arts & Culture for Writers

Fall 2018

Taught By: John Reed

Section: A

CRN: 5640

Credits: 1

This six-week seminar covers the entire process of writing about the arts, from pitch to discovery to the writing itself. Taking as our subjects the extraordinary site specific installations of The New School collection (with works by José Clemente Orozco, Camilo Egas, Sol LeWitt, Dave Muller, Martin Puryear, Michael Van Valkenburgh, Brian Tolle, Kara Walker, Alfredo Jaar, Rita McBride and Glenn Ligon), each student writes and workshops a feature-length essay. The final, polished pieces will be published on a website now in the works with The School Art Collection and Parsons. This course is open to graduate students across the university.
