In this capstone fashion design course students will create and produce a collection of original designs for their thesis. The process will encompass the complete design cycle: from inspirational aesthetic and concept to garment development and finished collection. Students get an overview of the creation of a contemporary Swim/Athleisure collection. The process begins with research and ends with the creation of the completed Swim/Athleisure line.

Students will be able to choose from the following specializations. COUTURE Students will produce their garment using American and European haute couture as basis for their research and inspiration. Hands-on research will be conducted during multiple visits to the Parsons Fashion Study Collection to examine historic garments that exemplify the traditions and art of haute couture.

Students will be able to choose from the following specializations. ACCESSORIES Students get an overview of the creation of a contemporary accessory collection. The process begins with research and ends with the creation of the completed accessory line. CONTEMPORARY Students will produce their garments with an awareness of urban dressing combined with new performance fabrics with an emphasis on sustainability. COUTURE Students will produce their garment using American and European haute couture as basis for their research and inspiration. EXPERIMENTAL Students will use unorthodox methods and materials to design and produce their garments. KNITS Students will produce their garments using knits as the main fabrication for their projects. LEATHER Students will research and experiment with leather as the main fabrication to design and produce their garments. LINGERIE Students will produce their garments using lingerie concepts as the main fabrication for their collection. MENSWEAR Students will develop their garments using menswear specific techniques, research and inspiration as basis for their projects.
