The Design Studies Thesis (PGDS 5210) is the culmination of the student’s experience in the MA Design Studies program. The M.A. thesis is a 80 – 100 page paper that demonstrates original, previously unpublished, research in an area of Design Studies. With the previous approval of your advisor and program director, alternate thesis projects that may include 50% writing (40- 50 pages) and 50% practice-based outcomes (such as a documentary video, or multi-media) may be submitted. Students will have formulated a thesis topic during the course Advanced Thesis preparation in consultation with faculty member/s who will serve as the thesis advisor/s. To write a thesis, a student must have met the requirements for the Thesis Petition and have had their petition approved. Each student will work directly under the supervision of an assigned thesis advisor and may also consult with other faculty as required by their topic. Students are expected to work independently under the supervision of their advisor, and to meet with the advisor on a regular basis during the semester.
