Taught By: Georgia Traganou

Section: A

CRN: 2550

Credits: 3

TUP Students are required to take this seminar in the second year to prepare for completion of their final thesis. The seminar is based in the belief that critical urban knowledge is a necessary precondition for transformative urban practice. It is designed to help students define and structure the thesis by following a series of successive exercises. In parallel with Advanced Research Methods, students are also introduced to a variety of research methodologies that are utilized in professional practice as well as in academic scholarship. Students learn skills essential to conducting both qualitative and quantitative research, as well as to seeking grants and funding support from external agencies. Students work as a team, supporting each other by providing regular reading and critique of each others work. Students should keep in mind that collaborative work with the TUP cohort, and across TUP and DUE chorts, is encouraged.
