In this course we will explore the intersection between the photographic image and the world of poetics. Through readings of both theory and literature, as well as weekly creative assignments, students will consider the role of the photograph with regards to language and text, both in literal ways as well as in figurative ones. Students will explore the metaphorical roots and possibilities within the photographic medium, its power to represent something other than its literal subject, as well as the ways images can relate to texts or perhaps even stand in directly as pieces of text. Open to: All university undergraduate degree students. Pre-requisite: PSAM 1050 Intro to Photography or PUPH 2100 Core Studio 1: Photo Practices. Some seats will be reserved for Bachelor of Photography majors.
