This course explores the overlaps and relationships between science and photography, with an emphasis on historical and current uses of imaging processes in the realm of astronomy, physics, astrophysics, biology, and medicine, etc., with the aim of applying these methods towards creative applications. We will investigate how photography has played a crucial role in a range of scientific endeavors and how, in turn, scientific research has shaped photographic technologies. We will use case studies, field trips, readings, and examples from contemporary art as platforms for analysis and learning. Students will be prompted to creatively respond to concepts, approaches, and technologies considered throughout the semester.

Open to: All university undergraduates. Pre-requisite: PUPH 2110, or PUPH 2100, or PSAM 1050.
